As a platform for the necessary convergence of solidarity re-existences in time of pandemic, we, organizations and networks of inhabitants around the world, in the face of the worsening health and economic crisis unveiled by the pandemic, have organised 3 sessions of the Virtual World Assembly of Inhabitants on 2020 to denounce the growing violations of the right to housing and the serious risk of a return to the failed neoliberal policies that caused it. The VWAI have given voice and impact to the re-existences, resist the crisis and revive inhabitants and communities thanks to policies and practices alternative to neoliberalism and to strengthen, the commitment on the joint front of the solidarity, within a local/global mobilization in support of building of an alternative based on human and environmental rights and the equitable redistribution of resources, and in solidarity with human rights defenders.
It was a huge mobilization in all continents for the first stage of the Inhabitants’ Solidarity Agenda
The first two sessions of the Virtual World Assembly of Inhabitants, July and August 2020, have encouraged the exchange of experiences of rescue and struggle, the sharing of strategies, the strengthening of solidarity, in particular with the relaunch of the World Zero Evictions Days in October 2020.
These re-existences have succeeded in bringing relief to poor neighborhoods and achieving important victories. Most notably, a moratorium on evictions and the cancellation of some of the rent in many countries.
To highlight the alliances with local authorities and progressive governments and the support of the UN Rapporteur on the Right to Housing.
At the end of the year, with the 3rd Session of the Virtual World Assembly of Inhabitants, (https://docs.google.com/…/1J1hfgxH559hpEwwXQuqlRECgbC…/edit…) more than 6.000 people viewed the meetings, where more than 850 activists and organizations from 66 countries on all continents, made their contributions.
In 2021, marked by the ravages of COVID 19, the growing unfair division between the haves and have-nots of healthcare and the vaccine, and the accumulation of personal and sovereign debt, we want to play our part in challenging attempts to restore the old and failed normality.
Emphasize on «Establish the Inhabitants’ Solidarity Agenda 2021, the convergence of re-existences in times of pandemic«
Therefore we launch a strong Call for participation in the 4th session of the Virtual World Assembly of Inhabitants on Saturday 30/01/2021.
